Faculty Positions

Assistant Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs

The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia seeks an experienced and strategic-minded tenured professor to join our team. The Assistant Dean will also hold a tenured faculty position in the School of Data Science. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs, the Assistant Dean will be pivotal in overseeing and managing aspects of the faculty life cycle (e.g., recruitment and professional development) and academic affairs (e.g., curricula oversight of graduate and undergraduate programs, strategic planning, oversight of day-to-day operations). The Assistant Dean holds a 5-year renewable administrative appointment for these duties.

Intermediate Data Scientist

The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia seeks an Intermediate Data Scientist to work in collaboration with Don Brown, Ph.D., and Sana Syed, M.D., M.S., focusing on understanding gut structure and function in common gastrointestinal (GI) diseases, using cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence methods. The overarching goal of this work is to personalize care for pediatric patients suffering from chronic GI disease by improving diagnostics, predicting future disease complications, and identifying better disease biomarkers and novel drug targets. This is a one-year restricted position; continuation is based on the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Intermediate Data Scientist: Research Data Enclave

The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia seeks an Intermediate Data Scientist to work in collaboration with Don Brown, Ph.D., and Neal Magee, Ph.D., focusing on UVA’s Research Data Enclave (RDE), a visionary initiative that will be designed to serve as the catalyst for unprecedented strides in collaborative research, translational science, and data sharing. Building on the success of the integrated Translational Health Research Institute of Virginia's Research Data Commons, the RDE will support a much-needed expansion of the University’s research data resources, allowing researchers to support team science and accelerate scientific innovation across Grounds. The data scientist will work initially with preliminary users and in later years with new users to specify and help define solutions for the data science research needs of the RDE users.
