Datapalooza is an annual event hosted by the UVA School of Data Science, showcasing research and industry trends across Grounds and the greater data science community. Datapalooza represents a core value of the UVA School of Data Science - fostering collaboration and engagement in data science research, education and industry communities at the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville and the Commonwealth, across the U.S., and around the world.

Datapalooza was launched in 2017 to amplify and connect data science research happening across UVA Grounds. It has since expanded to highlight research and industry work happening around the region, helping people in the data science community make connections and expand their knowledge.

Past keynote speakers have included Rumman Chowdhury, Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lead at Accenture, John J. McGowan, Deputy Director for Science Management at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease within the NIH and Victoria Stodden, Associate Professor of the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Panels occur throughout the day on a variety of subjects, including “Data and Democracy,” “Doing Data Science in Service of Public Good,” and “Modeling Financial Data.” Datapalooza also brings together professors and researchers from across Grounds, spanning many disciplines, including medicine, library sciences, engineering, education, and more.

This event would not be possible without our sponsors. Past sponsors have included Quantitative Investment Management (QIM), LMI, Capital One, Oracle for Research, and Linux Foundation. If you or your company is interested in sponsoring Datapalooza please contact Arlyn Burgess (aew3b@virginia.edu).
