The University of Virginia's School of Data Science is pleased to announce that it has reached a five-year memorandum of understanding with the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca in Italy to collaborate and establish a framework for working together on shared objectives.

The two schools will look for areas related to data science that further the scientific and cultural interests of the United States and Italy.

Potential areas of cooperation include the biosciences, neurosciences, social sciences, archeological studies, economics, engineering, and many others.

During the period covered by the agreement, the two schools will develop collaborative educational programs, such as undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as visiting scholar programs. Other potential areas of cooperation include jointly hosting events and sharing ideas and knowledge between staff and students.

Representatives from the two schools will meet quarterly, at a minimum, to assess the progress of their partnership.

UVA's first-in-the-nation School of Data Science was founded in 2019. The IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, founded in 2005, is a public university, with a focus on the analysis of societal, technological, and cultural systems.

In 2023, the School of Data Science reached an agreement with Flinders University to facilitate research and knowledge exchange in artificial intelligence, data security, and democracy.
